The Gibraltar Chronicle

The Library also holds the complete archive of the Gibraltar Chronicle, the leading local newspaper which developed out of the Garrison Library Printing Establishment. First published in 1801, the Gibraltar Chronicle is today one of the oldest English language newspapers to have been continuously in print. The Gibraltar Chronicle’s first scoop was the reporting of the success of the Royal Navy at the Battle of Trafalgar and the subsequent death of Nelson.

The Library, with the support of the The Kusuma Trust, is moving into the digital age, and is developing a digitisation programme which will include the digitisation of its newspaper collection, including the Gibraltar Chronicle archive.
